A practical guide to the Terrace of the Elephants in Angkor Thom, including what to notice and how to combine it with nearby sites.
What it is
The long raised terrace formed part of Angkor Thom's royal ceremonial area.
What to look for
Elephant carvings, processional scale and the relationship to the open field in front are the main reasons to stop.
Best way to visit
Walk part of the terrace rather than only photographing it from the road.
Nearby sites
Combine it with Bayon, Baphuon and the Terrace of the Leper King.
My take
It makes more sense when seen as part of Angkor Thom's urban plan than as an isolated monument.
