Best Areas to Stay in Siem Reap: Neighborhood Guide

Compare the best areas to stay in Siem Reap for first timers, food, nightlife, couples, families, quiet nights and easy Angkor access.

Updated 20 Oct 2026

Siem Reap is compact, but the neighborhood still changes the feel of the trip. The best area is not automatically the closest one to Angkor Wat. I would choose based on what you want after the temples: nightlife, restaurants, quiet streets, a resort pool or easy walking.

Old Market and Pub Street: best for first timers and nightlife

This is the easiest base if you want to walk everywhere in the evening. Restaurants, bars, markets and tuk-tuks are all close. The downside is noise and a more tourist-heavy atmosphere.

Good central options include Park Hyatt Siem Reap and smaller central hotels around the Old Market.

Wat Bo: best all-round area

Wat Bo is my favorite balance for many travelers. You still have excellent restaurant and cafe access, but the area generally feels calmer than the Pub Street core.

Browse Wat Bo hotels on Booking. Properties such as Angkor Village Hotel fit the atmosphere well.

Wat Damnak: best for boutique stays and couples

South of the river, Wat Damnak gives you quick access to the center with less nightlife spillover. I like it for boutique hotels, date-night restaurants and travelers who want to walk without sleeping inside the busiest streets.

Golden Temple Retreat is one option to compare here.

Old French Quarter: best for polished central stays

The Old French Quarter works well if you want central convenience with a more polished hotel feel. It is an easy area for short trips where you do not want to think much about evening transport.

Shinta Mani Angkor is a useful reference point for this kind of stay.

Charles de Gaulle and northern Siem Reap: best for resorts

This corridor is convenient for Angkor and has larger hotels with pools, spas and more resort-style facilities. You trade some walkability for space and comfort.

Compare Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra or The Community Siem Reap.

Krous and airport-side resorts: best for space and facilities

These areas can work for travelers who prioritize the hotel itself, larger grounds or resort amenities. I would only choose them if I was comfortable using tuk-tuks or cars for dinner and nightlife.

Anantara Angkor Resort is one example in this style.

Which area I would choose

First trip: Wat Bo or central Siem Reap. Nightlife: Old Market and Pub Street. Couple: Wat Damnak or Wat Bo. Family: quieter resort corridor or a central hotel with a strong pool. Luxury: Old French Quarter or northern resort area.
