A practical family guide to Angkor Wat with children: heat, pacing, safety, temple stairs, transport, food and realistic itineraries.
Angkor can be excellent with children
The temples feel adventurous to many children, but the experience depends heavily on pacing. Heat, long walks and steep stone steps matter more than fitting every monument into the day.
Start early and rest at midday
Cooler morning hours are much easier for families. Build in water breaks and consider returning to Siem Reap during the hottest part of the day.
Bakan tower restriction
Children under 12 are not permitted to climb the steep Bakan tower at Angkor Wat. Families should plan around this rather than discovering the restriction at the queue.
Choose fewer temples
Angkor Wat, Bayon and Ta Prohm already make a substantial family day. Adding too many similar stops can turn curiosity into temple fatigue.
Transport with children
A private car offers air-conditioning, while tuk-tuks provide an open-air experience and easy stops. The best choice depends on children's ages and the season.

Practical note
Rules, access conditions and prices can change. For ticketing and visitor regulations, check the official Angkor Enterprise and APSARA National Authority information shortly before your visit.
