Plan a trip to Banteay Srei: why the red sandstone carvings matter, distance from Angkor, timing and how to add it to a multi-day itinerary.
Why Banteay Srei is special
Banteay Srei is smaller than Angkor Wat but extraordinary in detail. Its reddish sandstone allowed artisans to create exceptionally fine decorative carving.
It is farther from the core temples
Banteay Srei sits well beyond the main Angkor circuit, so the journey requires more time. That makes it best suited to visitors with at least two or three temple days.
Best time to go
An early departure helps with heat and gives you more flexibility for additional stops on the return toward Siem Reap.
How long to allow
The temple itself is compact, but do not plan the outing based only on walking time inside the monument. Road travel is the main logistical factor.
Where it fits
Banteay Srei is ideal on day three of our three-day Angkor itinerary.
Transport
Discuss the additional distance with your driver when agreeing the fare. See the Angkor tuk-tuk guide.
Practical note
Rules, access conditions and prices can change. For ticketing and visitor regulations, check the official Angkor Enterprise and APSARA National Authority information shortly before your visit.
