What makes Bayon unique
Bayon stands at the heart of Angkor Thom and is best known for towers carved with large serene faces. The compact vertical mass feels completely different from Angkor Wat's long axial approach.
The bas-reliefs
Lower galleries depict battles, processions and scenes of everyday life. These carvings are worth slowing down for because they make the monument far more than a collection of face towers.
Best time to visit
Morning light works beautifully on the faces, while the complex becomes hotter and busier later in the day. It is easy to combine Bayon with the gates and other monuments of Angkor Thom.
How long to allow
Allow at least 45–60 minutes for Bayon itself, more if you are exploring the wider Angkor Thom area.
Pair it with Angkor Wat
Bayon belongs naturally in a one-day Angkor itinerary and the Small Circuit.
Practical note
Rules, access conditions and prices can change. For ticketing and visitor regulations, check the official Angkor Enterprise and APSARA National Authority information shortly before your visit.
