Visit Ta Prohm at Angkor: tree roots, history, Tomb Raider fame, best times to go and how to include it in your temple route.

Why Ta Prohm is famous

Ta Prohm is known for enormous tree roots gripping galleries and walls, creating the image of jungle and architecture growing into one another. Its international fame increased after its use as a filming location.

What to look for

Do not rush only to the most photographed root-covered doorway. The wider complex includes long galleries, collapsed masonry and courtyards that show how large the monastery once was.

Best time to visit

Early morning is usually the easiest time for atmosphere and cooler temperatures. Late afternoon can also work, depending on your route.

How long to allow

Around an hour works for many visitors, but photography or architectural interest can easily justify more.

Combine it with other temples

Ta Prohm is a natural part of the Small Circuit and the classic one-day route.

Respect the site

Stay behind barriers and avoid climbing unstable masonry or tree roots. Conservation teams manage a delicate balance between vegetation, safety and preservation.

Practical note

Rules, access conditions and prices can change. For ticketing and visitor regulations, check the official Angkor Enterprise and APSARA National Authority information shortly before your visit.
