Angkor Wat Itinerary: How to Plan Your Temple Visit

Build the right Angkor Wat itinerary with routes for one to three days, temple order, sunrise options and realistic pacing.

Build the right Angkor Wat itinerary with routes for one to three days, temple order, sunrise options and realistic pacing.

Start with the number of days

Your itinerary changes completely depending on whether you have one day or three. A single day should focus on Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon and Ta Prohm. More time lets you add the Grand Circuit, Banteay Srei and quieter temples.

One-day structure

Use the 1-day Angkor itinerary if you want the core highlights with minimal backtracking.

Three-day structure

Our 3-day Angkor itinerary spreads the major temples across cooler morning and afternoon sessions and leaves room for Banteay Srei.

Small versus Grand Circuit

The Small Circuit covers many headline sites. The Grand Circuit reaches a broader ring of temples and works particularly well on a second temple day.

Do not overpack the day

Temple fatigue is real. Fewer sites with time to notice reliefs, galleries, courtyards and landscape usually creates a better experience than racing through a checklist.

Transport matters

Choose your driver or transport before the morning. See how to get to Angkor Wat and our tuk-tuk guide.

Practical note

Rules, access conditions and prices can change. For ticketing and visitor regulations, check the official Angkor Enterprise and APSARA National Authority information shortly before your visit.

Hey It's Cambodia practical take

Build the route around energy, not a temple count

The best itinerary is rarely the one with the most stops. I would choose a small number of important temples, protect the cooler hours for walking, and leave enough time to actually notice galleries and reliefs.

Use the circuits as a framework, not a rule

Small Circuit and Grand Circuit are useful planning shortcuts, but you can reorder or trim them. A private driver or guide should adapt the day to your pace rather than force you through every standard stop.

Keep planning
